FISHING REPORT 7/27/2010

Canyon Ferry: Rainbows continue to be caught throughout the reservoir. Worms and marshmallows from shore and trolling Rock-n-Rolls are working best. Successful rainbow anglers are fishing around the Silos, Hellgate and Cemetery Island. Walleye fishing continues to produce good results throughout the reservoir. Pulling bottom bouncers in 17-30 feet of water with various worm and leech rigs is producing the best bite. Some anglers are having success with jigs (chartreuse, orange and green) mid-reservoir and at the North end around Cemetery Island. Quite a few yellow perch are being caught while fishing for walleye. Water temperatures remain steady between the high 60’s and low 70’s and the reservoir is currently at full pool. Adam Strainer, FWP, Helena.

Hauser: Rainbows are being caught from shore and boat below Canyon Ferry Dam. Boat anglers are drifting and jigging while those from shore are using worms or corn. A lot of walleye are being caught in the Causeway while jigging chartreuse or lime jigs tipped with a worm or leech in 15 feet of water. Shore anglers are picking up walleye at the Causeway Bridge on jigs with a leech in the late evenings. Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena

Holter: Rainbow fishing is good while trolling cowbells tipped with a crawler around the Dam, Log Gulch and Departure point. The rainbows are being caught in the early morning in 30 feet of water. Walleye fishing is very good throughput the reservoir, but the hot spots are around Cottonwood Creek, Split Rock, clay banks in the lower lake and shallow bays. The best bet is using chartreuse, lime or red jigs or bottom bouncers in 8 to 15 feet of water. A few perch are being caught as well. Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena
