Walleye Fishing Report - February 23th 2010
Canyon Ferry: Rainbow fishing slowed a bit the past week. The south
end from the Silos to the waterfowl pond (#4), has been best. Successful
anglers are using ice flies or Swedish pimples tipped with worms in 4-12
feet of water and are running bait a couple feet off the bottom. Rainbow
fishing is best around sunrise and sunset. Very few perch are being caught,
but the few successful anglers are finding perch along the pressure ridge
between Duck Creek and Hole-in-the-Wall. Jigging Rapala’s, glow hooks and
Swedish pimples, tipped with maggots or perch eyes in 40-45 feet of water,
are the bait of choice. A few burbot (ling) are being caught around Duck
Creek Bay. Ice depths range from 6-inches at Magpie Bay (North end),
16-inches at Goose Bay (mid-reservoir) and 20-inches at Pond #4 (South end).

Hauser: Rainbow fishing is good around the Causeway Bridge. Spawn sacks are
the bait of choice for good rainbow action. A few rainbows are being caught
from shore below Canyon Ferry Dam while using worms, marshmallows or spawn
sacks. There have been reports of ling and walleye being caught in the
Causeway halfway between Black Sandy and the Causeway Bridge. There is
10”-16” of ice out from the Causeway Bridge and 18” at Black Sandy. Troy

Holter: Rainbow fishing has slowed down around Black Beach and Departure
Point. Pink jigs tipped with maggots or spawn sacks in 8 to 10 feet of water
has been working best. Ling action has been good at night around Log Gulch
while using sucker meat for bait. Perch fishing is slow. There is 14”-18” of
ice at the Log Gulch, Departure Point, Black Beach and Holter Ramp access
sites. Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena
Helena Valley Regulating Reservoir: Kokanee fishing continues to be dismal.
A few have been caught on jigs tipped with a maggot in 15 to 20 feet of
water. Perch fishing has been nonexistent. There is 18” of ice. Troy
