Crooked Creek
Hello from Crooked Creek.
Hello from the Crooked Creek Chapter. I hope every one had a wonderful holiday season.
Ice fishing is underway and people are catching some great fish.
The chapter has been working on some upcoming projects that include a fish
cleaning station at James Kipp with the BLM. This will be a nice asset to
the camp ground and will help keep the banks clean for fishermen to enjoy.
Also in the planning stage to install some picnic shelters at Petrolia Res.
The ones that are currently there need some serious work. The club helped out
2 of our local community organizations, by donating to the Winnett playground
and the Cheadle Fire dept.
We went in on the purchase of a canopy for the new spawning pontoons with the
Billings Chapter to be used by the Fort Peck crew to help with the efficiency
of the operation. It has been great to work with the other chapters and get new ideas.
The club has contacted the Jordan Chapter on installing 2 more Walleye /
Sauger Education signs at Hell Creek and Devils creek camping areas.
We are going to try to do it this spring.
The Crooked Creek / News Argus annual Youth Essay contest is in full swing
and the area students are working hard to get their most memorable out door
experience on paper. The overall winner will be a special guest at our banquet.
And all the other winners will receive gift certificates for fishing equipment
at Don’s and the Sports Center. All participants will get a gift certificate
from Ruby’s in Lewistown. This is a very fun and entertaining project for our club.
The club lost a very talented friend this fall. Jody Menge, who was a very
talented artist and donated prints to our local and state banquets. The club
has had our meetings at their business. She will be missed.
The Banquet season is starting and we are no different. The crooked creek
banquet will be Feb 23rd at the Lewistown out at the Fair Grounds. The Montana
outdoor Radio Show will be broadcasted that morning from Lewistown and will be
at the day will be set up at the trade center through out the day for everyone
to come by and visit. The Captain and the crew should add some fun entertainment
for everyone. The doors will open at 10:00am, with a full day of things going on.
Some of the things going on through out the day will be seminars by several
sporting good manufactures and the Fishing Team of Kennie Williams & Travis
Scott will be speaking on fishing our local Montana waters. There will be Boat
dealers here with some great boats and deals for those who will be looking for
that new boat to put on the water this spring. That night we will have some
great prizes and good food for everyone to enjoy.
As always I hope everyone has a great winter and if you happen to make it out
fishing, just remember to practice Selective Harvest and leave it better than you found it.
